Who are the promoters of Tata Sky?

Tata Sky Ltd is a joint venture between Tata Sons and 21st Century Fox.

 

When was the service launched?

Tata Sky satellite television service was launched on 8 August, 2006.

 

How does Tata Sky work?

Tata Sky uplinks all channels from broadcasters to its satellite (INSAT 4A). The satellite sends these channels in digital format to the mini-dish fixed outside your home. The mini-dish relays the channels to the set top box which decodes the channels and sends them to your television, giving you an unparalleled television viewing experience with DVD quality picture and CD quality sound.

 

What are the special features of the Tata Sky set top box?

Tata Sky enhances your TV viewing experiences with the following features:

  • Guide: Browse through the 4-day schedule which includes the programme synopsis for all channels on Tata Sky.
  • Reminder: This feature allows you to set a reminder for your favourite programmes up to 4 days in advance, ensuring you never miss an episode of your favourite show again.
  • Favourites: You can set up to 50 channels in the order of your preference as a part of your favourites list.
  • Search & Scan Banner: This feature allows you to check out what’s playing on another channel without changing the channel you are currently watching.The banner appears at the base of the television screen and does not interfere with what you are watching. It disappears automatically after giving you the schedule of programmes across all channels.
  • Parental Control: You can regulate what your children watch with Tata Sky‘s parental control feature. This unique feature allows you to lock movies based on parental ratings or even an entire channel. To do this, press ‘organiser’ button on your remote and select parental control.

 

What are the different types of set top boxes available with Tata Sky?

Tata Sky has four set top boxes available – Tata Sky standard set top box, Tata Sky HD set top box, Tata Sky+ Transfer HD set top box and Tata Sky 4K set top box.

Tata Sky HD gives you the unmatched experience of high-definition viewing right at your home. What is the Tata Sky 4K Box?

Tata Sky UHD 4K is a future ready set top box with a slew of superior features -

  1. Sharper Picture Quality: 4 times the resolution of Full HD, which means 4 times the number of pixels, showing even the finest details
  2. True Colour: Better colour depth giving more realistic colour. Normal HD video signals use 8-bit colour. With 4K, you get 10-bit colour with far more shades - even within a primary colour

What is Digitisation?

TV signals are currently distributed in the country in analog as well as in digital and terrestrial formats. A digital format provides better picture quality & sound and other benefits leading to a better quality service. Most cable operators in the country are providing analog TV service while all DTH operators are providing a digital TV service. Digitisation means that all cable TV households would receive digital TV signals through a Set Top Box. As part of Digitisation, every cable operator will be legally bound to transmit digital signals, which can be received at the subscriber's home, only through a Set Top Box, often called a STB. 

 

What is rain fade?

A few minutes of outage might occur during rains. This phenomenon is called rain fade/rain outage and occurs in DTH platforms across the world. It will result in your television losing reception for some time. We have tried to cut down this time so it might happen only for one or two minutes each time. This too is automatically detected and gets corrected by itself.

What are the various ways in which I can recharge my account?

You can choose any of the six options below to recharge your account.  

  1. Using Credit / Debit Cards or Net banking account
    ONLINE: Log on to www.mytatasky.com and go to Account Recharge option to recharge your account between:
    1. Rs 8 – Rs 30,000 for Selfcare/ Voucher Pin/ CC/DC and Bank Recharge

    You can contact your nearest Tata Sky Authorized Partner to order a recharge voucher or simply pay him for an electronic Top Up & your account will be recharged immediately.

    Log on to http://m.mytatasky.com from your internet enabled mobile phone ( GPRS or Wi-Fi ) You can recharge your Tata Sky account only via credit card transaction. Please keep your One Time Password ( OTP ) handy to prevent a transaction time out
  4. Auto Debit Facility
    By using Auto Debit facility, you authorise Tata Sky to debit your bank account/credit card for a fixed amount of Rs 500 each time your Tata Sky account balance reaches Rs 200. You will have to first register for this facility. To register, download the Auto Debit Form, fill it in triplicate and mail it with all the relevant documents to: Tata Sky Ltd.   5. Recharge through SMS
    This facility is available only for ICICI Bank Savings Account customers. Simply type an SMS in the format given below and send to 9222208888

    This facility is available only for Yes Bank & DCB (Development Credit Bank)  Account customers.

    Tata Sky recharges can also be done through all Yes Bank & DCB ATMs across India now. To recharge a Tata sky account, the subscriber should have an account with the respective banks and the bank's ATM card.

 

 

What recharge denominations are available?

Recharge denominations are available from Rs 8 to Rs 9999. However, if you choose the option of recharging online through your debit card/credit card/net banking account on www.mytatasky.com you can recharge for any amount between Rs 8 to Rs 30,000.

 

How much time does it take for the amount to be credited in my account after I recharge online?

If the your bank account has been debited but the amount has not been recharged to your Tata Sky Account, due to a Submitted/Failure Status, it would take 7 to 10 working days for the amount to be credited back into your account.

 

Can I manage my account Online?

Yes, by registering yourself on Tata Sky selfcare you can manage your accounts online.

What services are available through SMS?

With Tata Sky you can perform multiple functions on your account such as account recharge, package modification or order Showcase. You can also get information such as account balance & due date, Authorized Partner locations and your current package selection with prices by simply sending an SMS. What are TruChoice – genre-based channel packages?

Tata Sky now offers channel packages in a simplified genre based format. Channels of the same genre are grouped together, to allow for simplified selection of content. This allows subscribers to choose content of their choice and pay only for what they want to use.

 

What are the packages available in TruChoice?

In TruChoice Channel Packages, you can subscribe to one of the Base Packs to start with & opt for any of our Add-On Packs depending on your requirement. You also have the choice of picking your favorite regional channels through the various Regional Packs. Two regional packs are free with all Base Packs. In addition to these, Tata Sky also offers certain channels under the 'Specials' category.

 

What is Make My Pack Service?

Tata Sky gives you the power of building your own pack basis your viewing requirements. Apart from the genre based packages prepared especially for your convenience, you can also choose channels on a la carte basis.

You can either create your pack with only individual channels or do a mix-n-match of the existing TruChoice packs with individual channels. Just ensure that your minimum monthly subscription charges are Rs 165 or more.

The subscribers on old packaging can also select additional channels on a la carte basis.

 

Will I get all my favourite channels on Tata Sky?

Depending on the channel package you select, you can get popular television channels including those from various bouquets of Star, Sony, Zee, SUN, HBO, Discovery, Disney Channel, MTV, NDTV, Ten, National Geographic Channel, Zoom, UTV Bindaas, UTV Movies and many more.

MultiTV Connection

 

What is a MultiTV connection?

If you have more than one television at home, we offer multiple Tata Sky connections, which is known as MultiTV connection. Under this solution you need one Set Top Box per television & can watch different channels on different televisions at any given time. Subscription charges for the 1st Set Top Box will be applicable as per the package/s selected. Avail the same package on the 2nd, 3rd & 4th Set Top Box at only Rs 240 pm.

 

What are the advantages of ordering a MultiTV connection?

The advantage of a MultiTV connection is that the subscription charges for your 2nd, 3rd & 4th connection are as per the below table irrespective of the package/s subscribed to on your primary connection.

Multi Dwelling unit connections (MDU)

 

What is MDU connection?

Tata Sky also offers a Multi Dwelling Unit (MDU) solution for multi-storeyed buildings, with the option of using a single dish for the entire building. Individual homes still need to have their own set top box and maintain individual subscription accounts with Tata Sky. An individual dish will not be offered to residents as the entire building has been specially wired by Tata Sky.

Residents of a multi-storeyed building, getting a Tata Sky connection, are required to get society permissions prior to their purchase.

 

What are the advantages of ordering a MDU connection?

The advantages of an MDU connection are as below:
Single dish solution for the entire building which consumes minimum space & maintains the aesthetics of the building.
Internal wiring solution which gives freedom from exposed wires.
Common dish for the entire building which ensures no additional drilling work and so hence lowers any chance of leakage.

What is ASC?

ASC stands for Annual Service Commitment - a special service offered to Tata Sky subscribers to have set top box/digicomps serviced after the base ASC period, which is provided free of cost for one year from activation, is over.

 

How does a subscriber avail of the ASC?

The subscriber needs to call the helpline and request for ASC enrolment. A Tata Sky Installer will then visit the subscriber's home to carry out a technical inspection of the equipment, post which he will get the ASC form duly filled and signed by the subscriber.

 

What is covered under the ASC & what is the validity of the ASC?

The Tata Sky set top box will be covered under the ASC. This ASC will not cover the Remote and/or any wilful physical damage of the set top box or installation material, any form of substitution or replacement that has been done, any defacement of the serial number on the set top box, any voltage fluctuations or rat bites or neglect - on account of improper use.

What are the charges for calls made to the Tata Sky helpline and SMS sent to 56633?

Tata Sky does not levy any charges on calls made to the helpline or SMS'es received. You are billed for the outgoing calls and messages by your telecom service provider as per applicable rates charged by the telecom service provider. For details of charges, please get in touch with your telecom service provider.

 

What should I do in case of any problem with the set top box/digicomp?

All set top boxes/digicomps are covered under a Base ASC for a period of 12 months from the date of installation ("Base ASC Period"). Should you encounter any problem, please call the 24x7 Tata Sky helpline. Our Customer care executive will be able to help you resolve the problem. If the problem persists, a dedicated team of our authorized Installation Service Providers who are trained to resolve technical problems that you may encounter. Post the Base ASC Period, Tata Sky also offers an Annual Service Commitment service to its subscribers. You can get the details of the same by calling the Tata Sky helpline (for details on the Base ASC Period, kindly refer to your Tata Sky Subscription Contract).

What is non-standard or premium installation?

Tata Sky's standard installation uses a 10 metre cable length. Any installation that calls for an increase in the length of the cable or any form of internal cabling, special mounting or RF connection to additional televisions, would be categorized under non-standard or premium installation. Please speak to the Customer care executive for more information on this before you get your Tata Sky connection.

 

If I relocate, what happens to my DTH connection?

You can take your Tata Sky set top box with you to any place in India. Call our helpline to find out more about our relocation policy.

 

What are the service visit and relocation charges?

Service Visit charges are Rs 200. Material replacements done as part of the service visit will be charged extra. Relocation charges will be as applicable:

What is the Once in 365 Days Subscription Holiday Offer?

The Once in 365 Days Subscription Holiday Offer allows subscribers to disconnect their Tata Sky services for a minimum period of 5 days to a maximum period of 90 days.

Can I transfer Connection of my set top box to someone else?

Transfer of Connection (TOC) Facility is available as per Tata Sky Policies in exception scenarios*
*Your existing Tata Sky subscriber account should be greater the 6 Months for you to opt for a Transfer of Connection (TOC). Your existing account will be cancelled and a new account will be given. Remaining account balance, if any, shall stand forfeited.

 

Transfer process is not applicable for Written-off Account. You need to recharge with a minimum amount of Rs 150 in the new account that will be created in the backend. You then need to send the NOC through the registered e-mail ID to help@tatasky.com. For any e-mail from unregistered e-mail ID, ID proof is also required along with NOC. How do I register my device?
To access Live TV, Tata Sky On Demand, Transfer, Remote record and all other services of the Tata Sky Mobile app on your PC  MAC, Android and Apple devices, you need to register your device following the below steps: 

  1. Download the free Tata Sky Mobile app from the Apple App Store, Google Play Store or our website.
  2. Login with your Subscriber ID/ RMN
  3. Assign a friendly name to register your device. Eg: my iPhone, dad's galaxy, my pc etc


What is a friendly name?
A friendly name is a unique name that you give to your device while registering the device with Tata Sky. This will help you identify the device you want to activate our Mobile services from the devices that you have registered. Eg: my phone, my ipad, my pc etc


Can I change the friendly name that I give to the device, any time later?
No. Friendly name once given during the registration process cannot be changed later. You will have to delete the device and re-register the friendly name. To delete a device, please call the Tata Sky helpline.


How many devices can I register?
You can register as many devices you want with Tata Sky free of charge. However you can activate Live TV/Transfer/Tata Sky On Demand on a maximum of 2 devices only per subscriber ID.


Can I activate Live TV/Transfer/Tata Sky On Demand on more than 1 device?
Yes. You can activate Live TV/Transfer/Tata Sky On Demand on a maximum of 2 registered devices. Each device will need to be activated separately.

Why can I use Live TV/Transfer/Tata Sky On Demand service only on 2 devices?
Content providers agreements with Tata Sky stipulate that Tata Sky Live TV channels, Tata Sky On Demand episodes and titles and recorded content can be allowed on a maximum of two devices per subscriber ID at any given time.

Is there a charge for the Live TV/Transfer/Tata Sky On Demand service?
No, currently there is no charge for Live TV/Transfer/Tata Sky On Demand.
Note: Tata Sky reserves the rights to introduce a charge for the services when they feel fit.

Do I have to pay anything for downloading the Tata Sky Mobile app?

How do I activate the Transfer feature?

To activate the Transfer feature from the Tata Sky Mobile app on your Android and Apple devices, you need to follow the below steps:

  1. You can subscribe to the Transfer pack by any of the following ways

    2. Adding the pack to your account at www.mytatasky.com
    3. By contacting our call centre on any of our numbers
  2. The Transfer pack will be activated on the device automatically after the app validates for all business rules.

Do I need to be a Tata Sky+ HD subscriber to access the Live TV/Transfer/Tata Sky On Demand service?
To activate Live TV and Tata Sky On Demand you need to be an active Tata Sky subscriber. You can enjoy the service irrespective of which set-top box (SD/ HD/ +HD/ Transfer) you have.
To activate Transfer service you need to be an active Tata Sky+ Transfer box subscriber.


I am not a Tata Sky subscriber can I still access the service?
No. You need to be an active Tata Sky subscriber to be access the Tata Sky Mobile app.


My Tata Sky account is currently in de-active state, can I still use Live TV/Transfer/Tata Sky On Demand service?
You need to be an active Tata Sky subscriber to enjoy live TV channels, Tata Sky On Demand videos or VOD your set-top box and on your device.

What is Wi-Fi Remote?
Wi-Fi Remote is a feature that lets you control your Tata Sky+ HD/Transfer set top box over the same Wi-Fi network using the app. There is a replica of the Tata Sky remote along with quick remote where you can select the channel logo and the set top box will tune to that channel.


I have internet on my phone, but I can't use the Wi-Fi remote feature.
You cannot use the Wi-Fi remote section over 3G / Edge/ GPRS
Your Tata Sky+ HD/ Tata Sky+ Transfer box & your Phone/Tablet both need to be connected to the home Wi-Fi network to use this feature


I have the application installed but I am unable to use Wi-Fi Remote
The Wi-Fi remote can only be used with connected Tata Sky+ HD/Trasfer boxes

How do I get extended information for movies?
Go to Remote Record. Select a movie (currently playing or future showing) of your choice under the movie genre. You will be shown another screen with "More info". Select 'Reviews' to read extended information like cast, crew, actor, story, reviews for the movie on sites like IMDB and Wikipedia

How do I set a programme for remote recording?
Go to Remote Record section
Press the record (red) button near the programme name. You will get a notification confirming that the programme has been successfully set for recording. This notification is displayed for few seconds only.
Remote recording functionality can be used by Tata Sky+ HD/ Tata Sky+ Transfer subscribers only. Any other subscriber that tries to record will get a failure message.


How do I set a programme for series remote recording? (only applicable on PC and MAC)
Go to Remote Record section
Press the series (link) button near the programme name. You will get a notification confirming that the series programme has been successfully set for recording. This notification is displayed for few seconds only.

How do I set a reminder for a programme?

To set a reminder for a programme, tap on the programme name. You will be able to see the set reminder button. Press the button to set a reminder. The remainder will be set on your Android device. The reminder alarm on your Android device will start when it's time for the programme

Please ensure the below to enjoy uninterrupted access to Live TV:

  1. You have a device that supports Tata Sky Mobile app.
  2. Your device is registered with Tata Sky & Live TV is activated on your device
  3. You are connected to the internet
  4. If you are out of the country, you will be unable to use Live TV, Transfer & Tata Sky On Demand streaming services.
  5. You can access Live TV for only those channels that are part of your subscription package

Can I also access Actve services of Tata Sky on the Live TV section?

Why are all the channels not available on Live TV?
Tata Sky always keeps expanding its offering of channels on the set top box. In a similar fashion, we will expand and bring more channels on Live TV soon.


I am not able to view certain channels on Live TV?
You can only view those channels on Live TV which you have subscribed for viewing on the STB. To enjoy all the channels available on Live TV, you would need to subscribe the respective channels on your STB as well. Go through the genre-wise listing of the channels, to enjoy Live TV.


Why all channels that are available on Live TV on my iPhone are not available on Live TV on my Laptop?
Currently Ten Action, Ten Sports & Ten Cricket are not available on Live TV on PC and MAC computers which are available on phones and tablets. We are working on expanding the channel line up on PC and we will bring more channels on Live TV soon.


I have subscribed to a channel on the set-top box. Yet when I access this channel on my activated device I am getting the following message: "Sorry this programme is not available for viewing on Live TV" message on a channel?
The broadcaster does not have the rights to stream this programme on mobile devices. The Live TV service on your device will resume once the next programme starts.


Can I watch the channels as per the channel genres, just like I view on my StB?
Yes. You can view and browse through the channels genre-wise on Live TV.


Is there pause functionality available while watching Live TV?
Yes. You can pause the Live TV streaming for a maximum of 5 minutes.
To do this,
Tap on the video while in full screen mode.

  1. You will see a pause button on the information bar.
  2. Tap on the pause button to pause Live TV for a maximum of 5 minutes.


What will happen if I do not resume after 5 minutes post pausing Live TV on the device?
After 5 minutes of pausing Live TV, the stream will directly start from live again. You will not be able to view the paused video.


Can I rewind shows on Live TV?
No you cannot rewind shows on Live TV. There is only a functionality of pausing live stream for a maximum of 5 minutes.


Can I change channels while viewing Live TV in full screen mode?
Yes. You need to swipe your fingers up or down across the channel logo shown on the information bar to change channels directly while in Full Screen Mode in android and iOS and Shift/ + or – in PC MAC.


Can I watch Live TV outside India?
No. You need to be in India to be able to watch Live TV on Live TV service.


Why can't I watch live TV channels outside India?
Tata Sky provides services only within the territory of India.


Can I record Live TV shows on my device?
You cannot record shows on your device.


I am an HD customer. Why can't I see HD feeds of the Live TV channels on Live TV?
Viewing an HD channel consumes more data vs viewing an SD channel on your device and would also require high internet speeds for viewing an HD channel. Keeping this in mind, we are currently offering only SD channels. Below is a sample profile required for streaming HD channels:

You will be able to download most of the videos but, certain videos will be available for stream only.


Will catch up shows be available for all channels?
Catch up shows will be available for most of the channels available in Live TV in the app. Tata Sky always keep expanding its offering of channels on the set top box. In a similar fashion, we will expand and bring more channels on Catch Up TV soon.


I selected a video to download. Can I cancel this?
Yes, not only can you cancel the download but also pause the download any time you wish.


Can I fast forward, pause or rewind videos?
Yes. You can fast forward, pause or rewind Tata Sky On Demand episodes. Just tap on the screen while viewing the video in full screen mode. Then drag the blue dot on the progress bar to the position you wish to start viewing the video from.


Once I download a video on my device, how long can I watch it?
You can watch a downloaded video on your device till the expiry of that video.


Can I stream/download videos outside India?
You cannot stream or download videos outside India.


Can I view downloaded videos outside India?
Yes, you can view downloaded videos outside India before the video expires.


Is there a limit to the amount of times I can watch a video in Tata Sky On Demand?
No. You can watch the video as many amount of times as you wish.


Can I view downloaded videos even if I am not connected to the internet?
Yes. You can view downloaded videos even if you are not connected to the internet for a maximum of 48 hours or till the expiry date, whichever is the first. If the video has still not expired but you are unable to view, please connect the device to the internet for a couple of minutes and go to the Tata Sky On Demand section of the Tata Sky Mobile app.


Post this you will be to watch the video again for a period of 48 hours without being connected to the internet.


When I download a video, is it using the memory space on my device?
Yes. Tata Sky Mobile service uses your device memory to store a video downloaded.

Tata Sky+ Transfer is a new generation Personal Video Recorder (PVR) with the capability of delivering HD picture quality and Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound. Additionally the Tata Sky+ Transfer set top box allows you to transfer/ stream & consume recorded content on companion devices like smart phones and tablets.

How can I access Transfer feature?
You can access Transfer only if you have a Tata Sky+ Transfer set top box and a supported device with the Tata Sky Mobile app installed. Following are the steps to follow to begin using transfer feature

  1. You will need a Tata Sky+ Transfer set top box
  2. You will need to download the Tata Sky Mobile app to access this feature
  3. You will need to register his device via the Tata Sky Mobile app
  4. You will need to subscribe to the Transfer pack for each registered device on which he chooses to enjoy the service
  5. Home Wi-Fi network is required
  6. Tata Sky+ Transfer set to box and device need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network

How do I use the Transfer feature?

  1. To be able to transfer content, you need to have recorded content on your STB
  2. Launch the Tata Sky Mobile app
  3. Tap on 'Transfer' on the home screen. By default, you will be in the 'My Box' section.
  4. If your box and device are on the same WiFi network, you will see your recorded content displayed in the 'My Box' section
  5. You can now select the content of your choice and once you tap on 'Transfer', the content will start the transfer process
  6. Once the transfer is done, you have to visit the 'My Phone/My Pad' section to view this content.
  7. All you have to do is tap on 'Play', and you can view your content, no matter where you are.


Why is my HD content not available in HD when I transfer the content to my device?
The transfer of video happens in only the following resolution irrespective of the channel the content was recorded form.

How long will it take to transfer a video from the Tata Sky+ Transfer set top box to the device?
The transfer process from the Tata Sky+ Transfer set top box to the device is a two-step process. The first step of the process is when the set top box prepares the recorded content to a mobile ready format (format of video that the device will understand) and the second step is when the set top box transfers the mobile ready video to the device.
The preparing phase on the set top box is a real time process; that means a 30min video will take 30 mins to prepare and create a mobile ready video for the mobile device.
The transferring phase will take approximately 5 minutes to transfer a 30 minute video; the speed also depends on the network traffic at the time.


I am unable to access the Transfer feature?
Please ensure the below to enjoy uninterrupted access to Transfer feature:

  1. You have a Tata Sky+ Transfer set top box
  2. You have a device that supports Transfer feature.
  3. Your device is registered with Tata Sky & Transfer feature is activated on your device
  4. You are connected to the internet
  5. Please bear in mind that if you are not connected to the internet, you can only enjoy transfered videos for a maximum of 48 hours.
  6. If you are out of India, you will be unable to use Transfer feature.


Will all my recorded content be available to stream/Transfer?
No, some shows and content from channels listed below will not available to stream/transfer


Why am I not able to view certain recorded content in the 'My Box' section of the transfer module?
The broadcaster does not have the rights to allow you to transfer some shows and channels. The list of channels whose shows will not be available is given above.


Can I set to transfer a video and stream another video from the set top box to the device?
No, both the actions will not work in parallel. When you try to stream a video the transfer of the video will pause automatically. Once the streaming is closed the transfer will resume.


Will my transferred video be available on the device forever?
Videos transferred to the device will be auto deleted based on the following rule

  1. If the recorded content from STB is transferred to device and not viewed it will delete in 48 hrs;
  2. If the video is started immediately after transfer the video will be available for 24 hrs
  3. If the video is started in the 48th hour after it is transferred the video will be available for another 24 hrs. i.e. Minimum time on device then is 24 hrs and maximum is 72 hrs.


On expiry, does a video get deleted by itself or do I have to delete it?
On expiry, the video will get deleted on its own from your device.


Is there a limit to the amount of times I can watch a transferred video?
No. You can watch the video as many amount of times as you wish till the video expires.


Can I view transferred videos even if I am not connected to the internet?
Yes. You can view transferred videos even if you are not connected to the internet for a maximum of 48 hours or till the expiry date, whichever is the first. I have activated Live TV on my device but why do I see a message saying "This Device is not supported"?

I have downloaded a Tata Sky On Demand video on my device. Can I connect the device to my TV and view the video on the TV screen?
Tata Sky Mobile app does not support output via HDMI/TV out, so it's not possible to view any content on your TV screen.


Can I watch Live TV or stream videos via 3G/Wi-Fi whilst a download is in progress?
Yes, although the quality of the Live TV or streaming of video will depend on the amount of 3G/Wi-Fi bandwidth available.

The streaming will stop and app will show error stating "Wi-Fi signal not available. Please ensure your Tata Sky+ Transfer set top box and this device are currently connected to the same Wi-Fi network."

The app will stop transferring the video and transfer will resume when the router connection is restored again.


Do I need a good internet connection to enjoy Live TV/Tata Sky On Demand services?
Having a good internet connection with a speed of 1MBPS or higher enables you to enjoy a better quality video while viewing Live TV or streaming videos on Tata Sky On Demand.


What type of internet connections can be used to access Live TV service?
The service works on all Internet connections i.e. 4G/3G mobile connections or on broadband/ Wi-Fi internet connections.


Can I run the app on my laptop using an internet dongle / data card?
Yes, but it will require 1mbps bandwidth to stream the videos.

The bitrate option allows you to select the quality of video (VOD) that you want to download. This setting is applicable for download option only & should be set before the download starts. The default setting is 'High'. This means that the video will be downloaded in high quality – which means it may take a longer time to download. You can modify this based on your internet speeds.

Can I transfer the Live TV service to another device?
No. You cannot transfer the service to another device. You will need to drop the service on the device and activate it on the desired device. Alternatively, you can activate Live TV on the additional device as well.

What is Tata Sky+ Transfer HD?
Tata Sky+ Transfer HD is a new generation Personal Video Recorder (PVR) with the capability of delivering HD picture quality and Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound. Additionally the Tata Sky+ Transfer HD set top box allows you to transfer/ stream & consume recorded content on companion devices like smart phones and tablets.
Following is the list of features that are available

  1. Transfer functionality (2GO): Watch recorded content of STB on iOS and Android devices without consuming internet data bandwidth.
  2. Pause + Record + Rewind Live TV
  3. 500 GB hard disk that can record up to 625 hours of content

What is the Transfer feature on the Tata Sky Mobile app?
Transfer feature on the Tata Sky mobile app allows you to view the recorded content from the Tata Sky+ Transfer HD set top box on your device.
This feature allows you to

  1. Transfer Recorded content to device over Wi-Fi
  2. Stream Recorded content from the Tata Sky+ Transfer HD (set top box) to the device over Wi-Fi


What are the devices Transfer feature will be available on?
Transfer feature will be available on iOS and Android devices.

How can I access Transfer feature?
You can access Transfer only if you have a Tata Sky+ Transfer HD set top box and a supported device with the Tata Sky Mobile app installed. Following are the steps to follow to begin using transfer feature

  1. You will need a Tata Sky+ Transfer HD set top box
  2. You will need to download the Tata Sky Mobile app to access this feature
  3. You will need to register his device via the Tata Sky Mobile app
  4. You will need to subscribe to the Transfer pack for each registered device on which he chooses to enjoy the service
  5. Home Wi-Fi network is required
  6. Tata Sky+ Transfer HD set to box and device need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network

This app is available for free on the App store, Google Play Store.

How do I use the Transfer feature?

  1. To be able to transfer content, you need to have recorded content on your STB
  2. Launch the Tata Sky Mobile app
  3. Tap on ‘Transfer’ on the home screen. By default, you will be in the ‘My Box’ section.
  4. If your box and device are on the same WiFi network, you will see your recorded content displayed in the ‘My Box’ section
  5. You can now select the content of your choice and once you tap on ‘Transfer’, the content will start the transfer process
  6. Once the transfer is done, you have to visit the ‘My Phone/My Pad’ section to view this content.
  7. All you have to do is tap on ‘Play’, and you can view your content, no matter where you are.


Why is my HD content not available in HD when I transfer the content to my device?
The transfer of video happens in only the following resolution irrespective of the channel the content was recorded form.
Resolution of the video when transferred is 400*224


How long will it take to transfer a video from the Tata Sky+ Transfer HD set top box to the device?
The transfer process from the Tata Sky+ Transfer HD set top box to the device is a two-step process. The first step of the process is when the set top box prepares the recorded content to a mobile ready format (format of video that the device will understand) and the second step is when the set top box transfers the mobile ready video to the device.

The preparing phase on the set top box is a real time process; that means a 30min video will take 30 mins to prepare and create a mobile ready video for the mobile device.

The transferring phase will take approximately 5 minutes to transfer a 30 minute video; the speed also depends on the network traffic at the time.


I am unable to access the Transfer feature?
Please ensure the below to enjoy uninterrupted access to Transfer feature:

  1. You have a Tata Sky+ Transfer HD set top box
  2. You have a device that supports Transfer feature.
  3. Your device is registered with Tata Sky & Transfer feature is activated on your device
  4. You are connected to the internet
  5. Please bear in mind that if you are not connected to the internet, you can only enjoy transfered videos for a maximum of 48 hours.
  6. If you are out of India, you will be unable to use Transfer feature.


Will all my recorded content be available to stream/Transfer?
No, some shows and content from channels listed below will not available to stream/transfer

Why am I not able to view certain recorded content in the ‘My Box’ section of the transfer module?
The broadcaster does not have the rights to allow you to transfer some shows and channels. The list of channels whose shows will not be available is given above.


Can I set to transfer a video and stream another video from the set top box to the device?
No, both the actions will not work in parallel. When you try to stream a video the transfer of the video will pause automatically. Once the streaming is closed the transfer will resume.

I selected a video to transfer. Can I cancel this?
Yes, you can cancel any transfer activity any time before completion.


Will my transferred video be available on the device forever?
Videos transferred to the device will be auto deleted based on the following rule

  1. If the recorded content from STB is transferred to device and not viewed it will delete in 48 hrs;
  2. If the video is started immediately after transfer the video will be available for 24 hrs
  3. If the video is started in the 48th hour after it is transferred the video will be available for another 24 hrs.

i.e. Minimum time on device then is 24 hrs and maximum is 72 hrs.


On expiry, does a video get deleted by itself or do I have to delete it?
On expiry, the video will get deleted on its own from your device.


Is there a limit to the amount of times I can watch a transferred video?
No. You can watch the video as many amount of times as you wish till the video expires.


Can I view transferred videos even if I am not connected to the internet?
Yes. You can view transferred videos even if you are not connected to the internet for a maximum of 48 hours or till the expiry date, whichever is the first. If the video has still not expired but you are unable to view, please connect the device to the internet for a couple of minutes and go to the Transfer section of the Tata Sky Mobile app.


Can I fast forward, pause or rewind videos?
Yes. You can fast forward, pause or rewind videos. Just tap on the screen while viewing the video in full screen mode and drag the blue dot on the progress bar to the position you wish to start viewing the video from.
 
Upon closing/minimizing the Tata Sky Mobile app, does the video keep on downloading in the background?
No. The application should be open for the transfer to be completed.
Note: The preparing of the video before the transfer begins does not require you to keep the app running.


When I transfer a video, is it using the memory space on my device?
Yes. Transferred video uses your device memory.

How do I register for the Transfer feature?
To access Transfer feature from the Tata Sky Mobile app on your Android and Apple devices, you need to follow the below steps: 

  1. Download the free Tata Sky Mobile app from the Apple App Store, Google Play Store
  2. Login with your Subscriber ID/ RMN (if not a registered subscriber on mytatasky.com, one can register directly through the app)
  3. Assign a friendly name to register your device. Eg: my iPhone, dad’s galaxy etc
  4. You can subscribe to the Transfer pack by any of the following ways
    1. Tapping on the Transfer icon in the Tata Sky Mobile app – following which the pack will get added automatically to your account
    2. Adding the pack to your account at www.mytatasky.com
    3. By contacting our call centre on any of our numbers
  5. The Transfer pack will be activated on the device automatically after the app validates for all business rules.
  6. You will now be able to stream/transfer recorded content from your Tata Sky+ Transfer HD set top box to your device


What is a friendly name?
A friendly name is a unique name that you give to your device while registering the device with Tata Sky. This will help you identify the device you want to activate Everywhere TV/Transfer service from the devices that you have registered. Eg: my phone, my ipad, etc


Can I change the friendly name that I give to the device, any time later?
No. Friendly name once given during the registration process cannot be changed later. You will have to delete the device and re-register the friendly name. To delete a device, please call the Tata Sky helpline.


How many devices can I register?
You can register as many devices you want with Tata Sky free of charge. However you can activate Everywhere TV on a maximum of 2 devices only per subscriber ID.


Can I activate Transfer on more than 1 device?
Yes. You can activate Transfer on a maximum of 2 registered devices. Each device will need to be activated separately.


Is there a charge for the Transfer service?
No, there is no charge for Transfer service.


Do I have to pay anything for downloading the Tata Sky Mobile app?
No. The app is available free on App Store, Google Play and our website.

Do I need to be a Tata Sky+ Transfer HD subscriber to access the Transfer service?
Yes, to activate Transfer service you need to be an active Tata Sky+ Transfer HD subscriber.


I am not a Tata Sky subscriber can I still access the service?
No. You need to be an active Tata Sky subscriber to be able to activate Transfer.


My Tata Sky account is currently in de-active state, can I still use Transfer?
No, you need to be an active Tata Sky subscriber to enjoy Transfer on your device.


Which platforms is this service available on?
Currently the service is available only on Android and Apple devices.


Is this service also available on Windows Phone & Nokia Symbian or Blackberry Phones?
No. Currently the service is only for Android and Apple devices.


What is the minimum specification of hardware required on my Android devices?
All Android phones and Tablets with following minimum requirements and above are supported

  2. Minimum CPU : 1.2 GHz
  3. Minimum RAM : 1 GB


What are the Operating Systems required on my Android and Apple devices?

I have a jailbroken/rooted device and I have downloaded the Tata Sky Mobile app but I am unable to register my device?
Owing to Tata Sky’s security agreement with content providers, Transfer and Everywhere TV is not supported on jailbroken/ rooted devices.


I have an iOS 5.0 mobile device, can I use the app?
No. Transfer service is accessible only through the Tata Sky Mobile app. This app is available on iOS 6.0 or higher.


I have Samsung S3 with version 4.0, can I use Transfer service?
No. Transfer service is accessible only through the Tata Sky Mobile app on the devices and OS versions mentioned above.


I have an Android phone, but I am not able to download the app?
The Tata Sky Mobile app is available only on Android devices that have the following minimum OS version 4.1.2


I have activated Transfer on my device but I see a message saying “This Device is not supported”
Owing to Tata Sky’s security agreement with content providers, Everywhere TV is not supported on jailbroken/ rooted devices


Internet related


Do I need internet on my device to access Transfer?
Yes. You need to be connected to the internet only during launch of the app so that Tata Sky can verify that you are allowed to use transfer feature.
Internet is not required to while using the transfer feature.

What type of internet connections can be used to access Transfer service?
The Tata Sky+ Transfer HD set top box and the Device containing the Tata Sky Mobile app with Transfer enabled need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
That means the set top box and the device have to be connected to the same Wi-Fi router.

What are the data charges that I would be charged with while accessing Transfer feature?
The data charges applicable would be as specified by your internet/mobile service provider. Please check with you internet/mobile service provider for the applicable data charges.

What will happen if my internet router stops suddenly while streaming recorded content on the device?
The streaming will stop and app will show error stating “Wi-Fi signal not available. Please ensure your Tata Sky+ Transfer HD set top box and this device are currently connected to the same Wi-Fi network.”

What will happen if my internet router stops suddenly while transferring a video?
The app will stop transferring the video and transfer will resume when the router connection is restored again.

Will the subscriber need to pay HD Access Fee to watch 4K channels?
The 4K transmission channel will be available to subscribers on Tata Sky UHD 4K box even without HD Access Fee. However, if the subscriber wishes to watch any of the HD channels, the subscriber will need to pay the regular price of Rs 125pm towards HD Access fee
