Who are the promoters of Tata Sky?

Tata Sky Ltd is a joint venture between Tata Sons and 21st Century Fox.

 

When was the service launched?

Tata Sky satellite television service was launched on 8 August, 2006.

 

How does Tata Sky work?

Tata Sky uplinks all channels from broadcasters to its satellite (INSAT 4A). The satellite sends these channels in digital format to the mini-dish fixed outside your home. The mini-dish relays the channels to the set top box which decodes the channels and sends them to your television, giving you an unparalleled television viewing experience with DVD quality picture and CD quality sound.

 

What are the special features of the Tata Sky set top box?

Tata Sky enhances your TV viewing experiences with the following features:

  • Guide: Browse through the 4-day schedule which includes the programme synopsis for all channels on Tata Sky.
  • Reminder: This feature allows you to set a reminder for your favourite programmes up to 4 days in advance, ensuring you never miss an episode of your favourite show again.
  • Favourites: You can set up to 50 channels in the order of your preference as a part of your favourites list.
  • Search & Scan Banner: This feature allows you to check out what’s playing on another channel without changing the channel you are currently watching.The banner appears at the base of the television screen and does not interfere with what you are watching. It disappears automatically after giving you the schedule of programmes across all channels.
  • Parental Control: You can regulate what your children watch with Tata Sky‘s parental control feature. This unique feature allows you to lock movies based on parental ratings or even an entire channel. To do this, press ‘organiser’ button on your remote and select parental control.

 

What are the different types of set top boxes available with Tata Sky?

Tata Sky has three set top boxes available – Tata Sky standard set top box, Tata Sky HD set top box, Tata Sky+ HD set top box.

 

What is Tata Sky HD?

Tata Sky HD gives you the unmatched experience of high-definition viewing right at your home. What is Tata Sky+ HD?

Tata Sky+ HD is the most advanced set top box from Tata Sky. In addition to 5.1 Surround Sound, 1080i resolution and 16:9 Aspect ratior, Tata Sky+ HD also has an in-built hard drive that allows you to Record your favourite shows and movies. This command can even be for the whole series. Just one push of the button and the whole series will be recorded. You can set this record command in advance or even from your mobile, tablet or PC. What is Digitisation?

TV signals are currently distributed in the country in analog as well as in digital and terrestrial formats. A digital format provides better picture quality & sound and other benefits leading to a better quality service. Most cable operators in the country are providing analog TV service while all DTH operators are providing a digital TV service. Digitisation means that all cable TV households would receive digital TV signals through a Set Top Box. As part of Digitisation, every cable operator will be legally bound to transmit digital signals, which can be received at the subscriber's home, only through a Set Top Box, often called a STB. What is rain fade?

A few minutes of outage might occur during rains. This phenomenon is called rain fade/rain outage and occurs in DTH platforms across the world. It will result in your television losing reception for some time. We have tried to cut down this time so it might happen only for one or two minutes in a year. This too is automatically detected and gets corrected by itself.

How can I upgrade my current set top box?

You can upgrade your current set top box by either getting in touch with the Tata Sky Helpline or by visiting your nearest Tata Sky dealer. Please mention your subscriber ID while asking for an upgrade & check for offers at the time.

What are the various ways in which I can recharge my account?

You can choose any of the six options below to recharge your account.  

  1. Using Credit / Debit Cards or Net banking account
    ONLINE: Log on to www.mytatasky.com and go to Account Recharge option to recharge your account between:
    1. Rs 50 – Rs 30,000 for Selfcare/ Voucher Pin/ CC/DC and Bank Recharge
    2. Rs 50 – Rs 9999 for EVD recharge
      HELPLINE: Call the Tata Sky helpline, select the 'Recharge' & use the 'Pay by Credit card/ Debit Card or NetBanking to make your payment.

  2. Recharge through your local dealer
    You can contact your nearest Tata Sky dealer to buy a recharge voucher or simply pay him for an electronic Top Up & your account will be recharged immediately.
  3. Recharge using your mobile
    Log on to http://m.mytatasky.com from your internet enabled mobile phone ( GPRS or Wi-Fi ) You can recharge your Tata Sky account only via credit card transaction. Please keep your One Time Password ( OTP ) handy to prevent a transaction time out
  4. Cheque Payment
    Write a cheque in favour of “Tata Sky Ltd“ and drop it in the Skypack drop box in your area. Please remember to write your Tata Sky subscriber ID and your mobile number on the reverse of the cheque. Please ensure that your cheque is local/at par, current dated, dully signed, minimum amount of Rs 50.
  5. Auto Debit Facility
    By using Auto Debit facility, you authorise Tata Sky to debit your bank account/credit card for a fixed amount of Rs 500 each time your Tata Sky account balance reaches Rs 200. You will have to first register for this facility. To register, download the Auto Debit Form, fill it in triplicate and mail it with all the relevant documents to: Tata Sky Ltd.   6. Recharge through SMS
    This facility is available only for ICICI Bank Savings Account customers. Simply type an SMS in the format given below and send to 9222208888

    This facility is available only for Yes Bank & DCB (Development Credit Bank)  Account customers.

    Tata Sky recharges can also be done through all Yes Bank & DCB ATMs across India now. To recharge a Tata sky account, the subscriber should have an account with the respective banks and the bank’s ATM card.

 

 

What recharge denominations are available?

Recharge denominations are available from Rs 50 to Rs 9999. However, if you choose the option of recharging online through your debit card/credit card/net banking account on www.mytatasky.com you can recharge for any amount between Rs 50 to Rs 30,000.

 

How much time does it take for the amount to be credited in my account after I recharge online?

If the your bank account has been debited but the amount has not been recharged to your Tata Sky Account, due to a Submitted/Failure Status, it would take 7 to 10 working days for the amount to be credited back into your account.

 

What is the recharge bonus campaign?

Subscribers recharging their Tata Sky accounts for Rs 351 or more when in 'active' status get a Recharge bonus of Rs 15 into their Tata Sky accounts. This campaign is valid for all recharges beginning 12 December 2013 for active subscribers. You can avail Recharge bonus only once a month.

 

Can I manage my account Online?

What is Tata Sky's SMS number?

The Tata Sky SMS number is 56633. You can SMS only from your Registered Mobile Number (RMN). To register your mobile number, please call the helpline.

 

What services are available through SMS?

With Tata Sky you can perform multiple functions on your account such as account recharge, package modification or order Showcase. You can also get information such as account balance & due date, dealer locations and your current package selection with prices by simply sending an SMS. The SMS must be sent from your Registered Mobile Number (RMN). To avail of our services, SMS the following to 56633:

Packages and Channels

 

What are TruChoice – genre-based channel packages?

Tata Sky now offers channel packages in a simplified genre based format. Channels of the same genre are grouped together, to allow for simplified selection of content. This allows subscribers to choose content of their choice and pay only for what they want to use.

 

What are the packages available in TruChoice?

In TruChoice Channel Packages, you can subscribe to one of the Base Packs to start with & opt for any of our Add-On Packs depending on your requirement. You also have the choice of picking your favorite regional channels through the various Regional Packs. Two regional packs are free with all Base Packs. In addition to these, Tata Sky also offers certain channels under the ‘Specials’ category.

 

What is Make My Pack Service?

Tata Sky gives you the power of building your own pack basis your viewing requirements. Apart from the genre based packages prepared especially for your convenience, you can also choose channels on a la carte basis.

You can either create your pack with only individual channels or do a mix-n-match of the existing TruChoice packs with individual channels. Just ensure that your minimum monthly subscription charges are Rs 165 or more.

The subscribers on old packaging can also select additional channels on a la carte basis.

 

Will I get all my favourite channels on Tata Sky?

Depending on the channel package you select, you can get popular television channels including those from various bouquets of Star, Sony, Zee, SUN, HBO, Discovery, Disney Channel, MTV, NDTV, Ten, National Geographic Channel, Zoom, UTV Bindaas, UTV Movies and many more.

Are there any regional channels?

Keeping in mind our diverse audiences, we have several regional channels covering Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Odiya, Bengali, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi and many more languages. SUN channels are also available on Tata Sky as a part of the Tamil Regional Pack.

MultiTV Connection

 

What is a MultiTV connection?

If you have more than one television at home, we offer multiple Tata Sky connections, which is known as MultiTV connection. Under this solution you need one Set Top Box per television & can watch different channels on different televisions at any given time. Subscription charges for the 1st Set Top Box will be applicable as per the package/s selected. Avail the same package on the 2nd, 3rd & 4th Set Top Box at only Rs 200 pm.

 

What are the advantages of buying a MultiTV connection?

The advantage of a MultiTV connection is that the subscription charges for your 2nd, 3rd & 4th connection are as per the below table irrespective of the package/s subscribed to on your primary connection.

Do I get special offers on buying a MultiTV connection?

Multi Dwelling unit connections (MDU)

 

What is MDU connection?

Tata Sky also offers a Multi Dwelling Unit (MDU) solution for multi-storeyed buildings, with the option of using a single dish for the entire building. Individual homes still need to have their own set top box and maintain individual subscription accounts with Tata Sky. An individual dish will not be offered to residents as the entire building has been specially wired by Tata Sky.

Residents of a multi-storeyed building, getting a Tata Sky connection, are required to get society permissions prior to their purchase.

 

What are the advantages of buying a MDU connection?

The advantages of an MDU connection are as below:
Single dish solution for the entire building which consumes minimum space & maintains the aesthetics of the building.
Internal wiring solution which gives freedom from exposed wires.
Common dish for the entire building which ensures no additional drilling work and so hence lowers any chance of leakage.

What is ASC?

ASC stands for Annual Service Commitment - a special service offered to Tata Sky subscribers to have their set top box serviced after the base warranty period is over.

 

How does a subscriber avail of the ASC?

The subscriber needs to call the helpline and request for ASC enrolment. A Tata Sky Installer will then visit the subscriber's home to carry out a technical inspection of the equipment, post which he will get the ASC form duly filled and signed by the subscriber.

 

What is covered under the ASC & what is the validity of the ASC?

The Tata Sky set top box will be covered under the ASC. This ASC will not cover the Remote and/or any wilful physical damage of the set top box or installation material, any form of substitution or replacement that has been done, any defacement of the serial number on the set top box, any voltage fluctuations or rat bites or neglect - on account of improper use.

What are the charges for calls made to the Tata Sky helpline and SMS sent to 56633?

Tata Sky does not levy any charges on calls made to the helpline or SMS'es received. You are billed for the outgoing calls and messages by your telecom service provider only. For details of charges, please get in touch with your telecom service provider.

 

What should I do in case of any problem with my set top box?

All set top boxs are covered under a Base Warranty for a period of 12 months from the date of installation (“Warranty Period”). Should you encounter any problem, please call the 24x7 Tata Sky helpline. Our Tata Sky associate will be able to help you resolve the problem. If the problem persists, we have a dedicated team of Tata Sky Installers who are trained to solve any technical problems that you may encounter. Post the Warranty Period, Tata Sky also offers an Annual Service Commitment service to its subscribers. You can get the details of the same by calling the Tata Sky helpline (for details on the Warranty Period, kindly refer to your Tata Sky Subscription Contract).

What is non-standard or premium installation?

Tata Sky’s standard installation uses a 10 metre cable length. Any installation that calls for an increase in the length of the cable or any form of internal cabling, special mounting or RF connection to additional televisions, would be categorized under non-standard or premium installation. Please speak to the Tata Sky associate for more information on this before your purchase.

 

If I relocate, what happens to my DTH connection?

You can take your Tata Sky set top box with you to any place in India. Call our helpline to find out more about our relocation policy.

 

What are the service visit and relocation charges?

What is the Once in 365 Days Subscription Holiday Offer?

The Once in 365 Days Subscription Holiday Offer allows subscribers to disconnect their Tata Sky services for a minimum period of 5 days to a maximum period of 15 days, at a nominal cost of Rs 20.

Add-On Packs, Regional Packs & Ala carte channels are available for a minimum duration of 30 days wef 6 April, 2011.

 

Can I transfer ownership of my set top box to someone else?

Transfer of Ownership (TOO) Facility is available as per Tata Sky Policies in exception scenarios*
*Your existing Tata Sky subscriber account should be greater the 6 Months for you to opt for a Transfer of Ownership (TOO). Your existing account will be cancelled and a new account will be given. Remaining account balance, if any, shall stand forfeited.

You need the OS 2.3 or higher to use the Tata Sky mobile app.

I have a Micromax/Samsung device (or any other), will the app be supported on it?
Tata Sky mobile app is supported on all Android devices as long as the OS version is 2.3 or higher.

 

I already have the Tata Sky mobile app, but I am not able to upgrade
Please ensure you are on OS 2.3 or higher.

I have iOS 4.2 can I use the app?
You need iOS 5.1 or higher to use the Tata Sky mobile app.

Tata Sky mobile app is supported on all iPads & iPhones 3GS onwards as long as the OS version is 5.1 or higher.

Cannot Discover Set-Top Box

 

I have internet on my phone, but I can’t use the remote feature

  1. You cannot use the Wi-Fi remote section over 3G / Edge/ GPRS
  2. Your Tata Sky+ HD box & your Phone/ Tablet both need to be connected to the home Wi-Fi network to use this feature

 

I have the application installed but I am unable to use Wi-Fi Remote
The Wi-Fi remote can only be used with connected Tata Sky+ HD boxes.

 

Make sure your device and the Tata Sky+ HD box should be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

 

Sharing on FB & Twitter

 

How do I share what I am watching on FB / Twitter?

  1. Go to settings section on the app
  2. Enter your facebook login and password details. This is a onetime process
  3. In settings, ensure "Social Watching" is set to "ON". This is a onetime process
  4. When you select a programme for viewing, if the settings above are done correctly, your friends who are also using the Tata Sky Mobile access app will be able to view the name of the programme you are watching
  5. If you would like to post what the name of the programme you are watching on your Facebook wall, and then ensure the above settings are completed, then tap the programme you are watching in the programme listings and select “share".

 

How do I see the Tweets for a movie

  1. Tap on the movie name in the guide/remote record section
  2. Select the tBuzz tab on the more info screen; you will be able to read tweets with the selected key word

 

How do I tweet from the app

  1. Tap on the programme name in the guide/remote record section
  2. Select the Share tab on the more info screen
  3. Enter your message in the bar at the top of the screen, press tweet button
  4. If you have not signed into twitter:
    1. Go to the settings screen on the Tata Sky Mob App
    2. Sign in to twitter
    3. Go back to the programme and tweet as per the instructions above

 

Programme Guide (iOS only)

The programme guide takes very long to load
The loading time of the programme guide depends on the internet speed on your Phone/ Tablet

How do I get extended information for movies?

  1. Go to programme guide/remote record. Select a movie (currently playing or future showing) of your choice under the movie genre. You will be shown another screen with "More info". Select ‘Reviews’ to read extended information like cast, crew, actor, story, reviews for the movie on sites like IMDB and Wikipedia

How do I assign my favourite channels?

  1. On iPad,
    1. go to programme guide & click on favourites
    2. Click on manage favourites to add & remove channels
  2. On phones
    1. go to programme guide/remote record & click on favourites

How do I set a programme for remote recording?

  1. In the programme guide select any programme to open the more info screen
    1. Tap on ‘Record Show’ on the screen to Record the programme.
    2. Enter your Subscriber id when prompted (one time activity)

    1. Press the record (red) button near the programme name. Enter your Subscriber id when prompted (one time activity). You will get a notification confirming that the programme has been successfully set for recording. This notification is displayed for few seconds only
    2. If you are attempting to remote record for the first time, you will be asked to enter your subscriber ID. This is a onetime entry only. Once you enter this you will not need to do it again when you are setting remote recordings in the future.
    3. Remote recording functionality can be used by Tata Sky+ HD subscribers only. Any other subscriber that tries to record will get a failure message.

How do I set a reminder for a programme?

  1. Reminders can be set for future programmes only
  2. To set a reminder for a programme, tap on the programme name. You will be able to see the set reminder button. Press the button to set a reminder. The reminder will be set on your device. The reminder alarm on your device will start when it’s time for the programme
  3. To view/ edit the reminder, go to the calendar of your device

What is the who’s watching section on programme guide?
This section lists the programme names that your Facebook Friends are watching

What is the search function? What all can I search for?
To search go the programme guide section and select the magnifying glass at the bottom of the screen

If the programme is currently on click on programme name to tune to the channel; this is applicable only if the you have connected your set-top box with the Wi-Fi router and the mobile app has also been connected with the set-top box through settings section.

I am unable to access Everywhere TV services?
Please ensure the below to enjoy uninterrupted access to Everywhere TV:

  1. You have a device that supports Everywhere TV.
  2. Your device is registered with Tata Sky & Everywhere TV is activated on your device
  3. The login ID/password details you are using are correct. In case you have changed your password, you will be asked to re-enter it when you open the Everywhere TV module
  4. You are connected to the internet
  5. Please bear in mind that if you are not connected to the internet, you can only enjoy downloaded videos for a maximum of 48 hours.
  6. If you are out of the country, you will be unable to use Live TV, VoD & catch Up TV streaming services.
  7. You can access Live TV and Catch Up TV for only those channels that are part of your subscription package

 

Why should I activate Everywhere TV? Other apps are already offering this service free of cost?
Many broadcasters are offering live streaming services, some free and some paid. Since those are broadcaster led, they offer only one or two channels per application. None of these apps are comprehensive enough to offer you multiple channels through a single application. Think about how many applications you will need to download to get all the channels you want.  This is something the Tata Sky Everywhere TV offers you. Just download one application and enjoy multiple channels of your choice anytime, anywhere. 

There are also many apps available in the markets of TV channels; however Tata Sky also brings Video on Demand to you on your device in addition to the set top box for a onetime charge.

 

Can I also access Actve services of Tata Sky on the Everywhere TV section?
2 channels from Actve Music are available. We will try and expand our offering to bring you the best from Tata Sky on your device.

 

Registration & Activation

How do I register for the Everywhere TV service?
To access Everywhere TV from the Tata Sky Mobile app on your PC, Android and Apple devices, you need to follow the below steps: 

  1. Download the free Tata Sky Mobile app from the Apple App Store, Google Play Store or our website.
  2. Login with your Subscriber ID/ RMN (if not a registered subscriber on mytatasky.com, one can register directly through the app)
  3. Click on the Everywhere TV icon on the home screen of the Tata Sky Mobile app and login with your Sub ID/RMN (only on Android).
  4. Assign a friendly name to register your device. Eg: my iPhone, dad’s galaxy, my pc etc
  5. Tap or click on the Everywhere TV icon in the Tata Sky Mobile App - a message will be displayed asking if you would like Tata Sky to contact you on your RMN.
  6. If you tap or click on yes, one SMS will be sent to you informing you about the charges and the method to activate Everywhere TV.
  7. Second SMS will be sent to you; this SMS needs to be forwarded to the number specified to activate the Everywhere TV pack.
  8. Once the SMS is sent successfully to your RMN; the same will be informed on the app.
  9. You can alternatively call the helpline to activate Everywhere TV on your mobile device OR log on to www.mytatasky.com > Everywhere TV section, select the mobile device you want to activate the Everywhere TV service.
  10. On activating Everywhere TV service, you can enjoy Everywhere TV @ Rs 60/- per month per device till the day you continue to subscribe to the Pack.

I am not registered on mytatasky.com, how do I activate Everywhere TV?
You can register on mytatasky.com via the Tata Sky Mobile app:

  1. On the login screen shown on launch of the app, click on New User (only on iOS and PC)
  2. Click on the Everywhere TV icon on the home screen of the Tata Sky Mobile app (only on Android).
  3. On the login screen shown, click on New User
  4. On the Register screen shown, enter your Subscriber ID, Password, Confirm Password, Email ID and Registered Mobile Number (RMN) and submit.
  5. You will receive a verification mail on your specified email account. Follow the steps in the mail to verify your account.
  6. You are now a registered user on mytatasky.com. You can proceed to activate Everywhere TV service

 

What is a friendly name?
A friendly name is a unique name that you give to your device while registering the device with Tata Sky. This will help you identify the device you want to activate Everywhere TV service from the devices that you have registered. Eg: my phone, my ipad, my pc etc

 

Can I change the friendly name that I give to the device, any time later?
No. Friendly name once given during the registration process cannot be changed later. You will have to delete the device and re-register the friendly name. To delete a device, please call the Tata Sky helpline.

 

What is the registration fee?
Registration of a device is absolutely free. You can enjoy Everywhere TV service free for the first month. Second month onwards price of Rs 60/- per month per device will be applicable.

How many devices can I register?

Yes. You can activate Everywhere TV on a maximum of 2 registered devices. Each device will need to be activated separately.

 

Why can I use Everywhere TV service only on 2 devices?
Content providers agreements with Tata Sky stipulate that Tata Sky Live TV channels, Catch Up TV episodes and VoD titles can be allowed on a maximum of two devices per subscriber ID at any given time.

 

Is there a charge for the Everywhere TV service?
Yes. You can enjoy Everywhere TV service free for the first month. Second month onwards price of Rs 60/- per month per device will be applicable.

Is the admin fee a onetime fee?
No. This is a recurring charge monthly fee.

 

Why do I need to pay an admin fee for each registered device? Why can’t I pay Rs 60 and enjoy the service on both devices?
Tata Sky subscription channels include viewing live TV channels on your set-top box only. The Everywhere TV admin fee provides you access to view live TV channels on your device. 

Just like you pay Tata Sky a fee for each set-top box on which you view TV channels, you need to pay Tata Sky for each device on which you access live TV channels.

 

How is the Admin fee charged to my Tata Sky account?
The admin fee is charged to your Tata Sky account on a per day basis

Do I need to be a Tata Sky+ HD subscriber to access the Everywhere TV service?
To activate Everywhere TV you need to be an active Tata Sky subscriber. You can enjoy the service irrespective of which set-top box (SD/ HD/ +HD) you have.

 

I am not a Tata Sky subscriber can I still access the service?
No. You need to be an active Tata Sky subscriber to be able to activate Everywhere TV.

 

My Tata Sky account is currently in de-active state, can I still use Everywhere TV?
You need to be an active Tata Sky subscriber to enjoy live TV channels, Catch Up TV or VOD your set-top box and on your device.

Yes. You need to be connected to the internet during launch, to stream Live TV, Catch Up TV and VoD.
If you have a video that has been downloaded on your device from the VOD library then you can watch that video offline without internet as well.

 

Do I need a good internet connection to enjoy Everywhere TV services?
You only need an internet connection to enjoy Everywhere TV services. However, having a good internet connection with a speed of 1MBPS or higher enables you to enjoy a better quality video while viewing Live TV or streaming videos on VOD / Catch Up.

What is the Bitrate (VOD) option in settings?
The bitrate option allows you to select the quality of video (VOD) that you want to download. This setting is applicable for download option only & should be set before the download starts. The default setting is ‘High’. This means that the video will be downloaded in high quality – which means it may take a longer time to download. You can modify this based on your internet speeds.

No. You cannot transfer the service to another device. You will need to drop the service on the device and activate it on the desired device. Alternatively, you can activate Everywhere TV on the additional device as well.

 

Live TV

Why are all the channels not available on Live TV?
Tata Sky always keeps expanding its offering of channels on the set top box. In a similar fashion, we will expand and bring more channels on Everywhere TV soon.
 

I am not able to view certain channels on Live TV on Everywhere TV?
You can only view those channels on Everywhere TV which you have subscribed for viewing on the STB. To enjoy all the channels available on Everywhere TV, you would need to subscribe the respective channels on your STB as well.
 

I have subscribed to a channel on the set-top box. Yet when I access this channel on my Everywhere TV activated device I am getting the following message: “This show is only viewable on set top box” message on a channel on Live TV?
The broadcaster does not have the rights to stream this programme on mobile devices. The Live TV service on your device will resume once the next programme starts.
 

Is there pause functionality available while watching Live TV?
Yes. You can pause the Live TV streaming for a maximum of 5 minutes on the Everywhere TV service. 
To do this, 

  1. Tap on the video while in full screen mode.
  2. You will see a pause button on the information bar.
  3. Tap on the pause button to pause Live TV for a maximum of 5 minutes.


What will happen if I do not resume after 5 minutes post pausing Live TV on the device?
After 5 minutes of pausing Live TV, the stream will directly start from live again. You will not be able to view the paused video.

Can I rewind shows on Live TV?
No you cannot rewind shows on Live TV. There is only a functionality of pausing live stream for a maximum of 5 minutes.

I was watching Live TV and it stopped streaming, can I resume from the same point if I re-start the app?
Live TV videos will always resume from the current point showing. You will not be able to resume from last viewed point.

Can I change channels while viewing Live TV in full screen mode?
Yes. You need to swipe your fingers up or down across the channel logo shown on the information bar to change channels directly while in Full Screen Mode.


Can I watch Live TV outside India?
No. You need to be in India to be able to watch Live TV on Everywhere TV service.

 

Why can’t I watch live TV channels outside India? I have paid the Everywhere TV admin fee and have subscribed to the channel on the set-top box?
Tata Sky provides services only within the territory of India.

 

Can I record Live TV shows using Everywhere TV on my device?
You cannot record shows on your device, you can only pause shows on Everywhere TV service for a maximum of 5 minutes.

 

Why can’t I see the program guide ahead of the 00:00 hours?
The program guide refreshes everyday at 00:00 hours. The program guide lists the schedule for the current day only.

 

I am an HD customer. Why can’t I see HD feeds of the Live TV channels on Everywhere TV?
Viewing an HD channel consumes more data vs viewing an SD channel on your device and would also require high internet speeds for viewing an HD channel. Keeping this in mind, we are currently offering only SD channels. Below is a sample profile required for streaming HD channels:

Why aren’t any videos being shown on the VOD section?
To view videos under the VOD section on your device, order/initiate download VoD from mytatasky.com by selecting VOD tab in the Everywhere TV section first or download a video on your Tata Sky+ HD set top box. Follow the below mentioned steps to do this:

  1. Logon to mytatasky.com
  2. Click on the Everywhere TV tab on the top of the page.
  3. Select VOD tab
  4. Navigate through the catalogue and select the video you would like to download.
  5. Post selection, the download will be initiated on your set top box. The same video will also be shown under the VOD>Available section on all activated Everywhere TV devices.

 

I have selected a video for download on mytatasky.com. In how much time will it reflect on the available section of VoD on the Everywhere TV activated device?
If your Everywhere TV activated device is connected to the internet, then the video will reflect on VoD > Available almost instantly.

 

I selected a video to download. Can I cancel this?
You are not charged for a VOD video until the completion of the first download on the set-top box or download/initiate streaming on the device whichever is first. Please delete the video from the VOD download queue on the set-top box & do not initiate download or streaming of the video on your device. If you have already initiated download you may pause the download anytime before completion.

 

If I have paid for some content for VoD on the Set Top Box, do I have to pay here again?
No. If the video is available for viewing on both the set-top box and device, you pay only once. You can enjoy the same video on your Everywhere TV activated device without paying for it again provided that the content has not expired yet.

 

I do not have enough money in my account; can I still select a video for download on mytatasky.com?
No. You need to have enough money to cover the price of the video.

 

I downloaded a video on my set top box, however I am not able to see the video on the VOD section Everywhere TV activated devices?
Some content providers have rights to allow streaming/ download of videos only on the set-top box. You may have selected a video which is available for viewing only on the set top box.

 

If I have downloaded something on my box, will it show up on my Everywhere TV VoD section on its own OR do I have to initiate download again from www.mytatasky.com?
Don't worry, if you have downloaded a video on your box it will automatically show up under the Available section inside VOD on Everywhere TV provided it is available for viewing on your Everywhere TV activated device as well.

 

Can I download VOD videos on Everywhere TV activated devices?
Yes. To download the video, go the available section of VOD. Then tap on the download button displayed on the poster. You can view this video as many times as you wish during the validity period.

 

Once I download a video on my device, how long can I watch it?
You can watch a downloaded video on your Everywhere TV activated device till the expiry of that video.

 

Can I stream/download videos under VOD from outside India?
You cannot stream or download videos under VOD from outside India. To stream/download videos under VOD you need to be in India and connected to the internet while on the Everywhere TV service.

 

Why can’t I download videos from the Available section of VoD on an Everywhere TV activated device? I am currently out of the country.
Tata Sky provides services only within the territory of India. In sync with the DTH offering Tata Sky offer Everywhere TV services also within the country.

 

Can I view downloaded videos outside India?
Yes, you can view downloaded videos outside India before the video expires.

 

Is there a limit to the amount of times I can watch a video on VOD?
No. You can watch the video as many amount of times as you wish till the video expires.

 

Is there a time limit to watch a video on VOD?
Yes. There is an expiry date for every video that you purchase/download. The expiry date for the video is displayed on the information panel of the programme (left hand side of your screen).

 

When will I be charged for the VoD video?

  1. You will be charged basis the completion of download on the set top box or the Everywhere TV activated device, whichever is first
  2. You will be charged on streaming of the VOD video if streaming of this video is initiated on Everywhere TV activated device before the completion of the first download on your set top box or Everywhere TV activated device

 

What if I accidentally deleted a Video on VOD before the expiry? Would I be charged again for downloading it?
Don't worry; the video will still be available under the Available section on VOD. You can download the video again for free within the expiry date.

 

I downloaded a video on my STB which had an expiry of 7 days, however when I downloaded the same video on my device it was available only for 3 days?

  1. Tata Sky charges only once for a video, but allows viewing on all connected set-top boxes and Everywhere TV activated devices.
  2. The expiry date of the video is based on the completion first download of the video is completed. The same expiry date is applicable across all connected set-top boxes and Everywhere TV activated devices.

 

For example,
Video downloaded on STB = 00:00 hrs on 1st of June 2013
Expiry of video on STB = 23:59 hrs on 7th of June 2013
Video downloaded on device = 00:00 hrs on 3rd of June 2013
Expiry of video on device = 23:59 hrs on 7th of June 2013

 

However, if you choose to stream the video to your Everywhere TV activated device before the completion of the first download, you will be charged on the start of streaming. The expiry date will be calculated basis the date of the first instance of streaming the video.

 

Can I view downloaded videos even if I am not connected to the internet?
Yes. You can view downloaded videos even if you are not connected to the internet for a maximum of 48 hours or till the expiry date, whichever is the first. If the video has still not expired but you are unable to view, please connect the device to the internet for a couple of minutes and go to the Everywhere TV section of the Tata Sky Mobile app. 

 

Post this you will be to watch the video again for a period of 48 hours without being connected to the internet. 

 

Example of restriction of access,

  1. Video downloaded on Everywhere TV activated device = 00:00 hrs on 1st of June 2013
  2. Expiry of video on Everywhere TV activated device = 23:59 hrs on 7th of June 2013
  3. Everywhere TV activated device goes offline = 00:00 hrs on 3rd of June 2013
  4. Restriction of Access to Everywhere TV if device has not connected again = 23:59 hrs on 4th of June 2013

Yes. Everywhere TV service uses your device memory to store a video downloaded under VOD.

No. The application should be open for the download to be completed.

 

I had a video downloaded; it seems to have disappeared from the downloaded & available list on the Everywhere TV activated device?
Every video has an expiry date associated with it. If the video has crossed its expiry date then the video gets deleted automatically.

 

On expiry, does a video get deleted by itself or do I have to delete it?
On expiry, the video will get deleted on its own from your device.

 

What happens when a video expires while download is in progress?
The video is auto deleted from the downloading list.

 

My phone was off when I ordered a video from mytatasky.com; will I still get the notification on my phone when I turn it on?
The notification may or may not appear based on how long your phone was switched off. However, the video will be available on your Everywhere TV activated device under VOD>available section.

 

Can I simultaneously download and stream a VoD video on my Everywhere TV activated device?
No. At any given time, you can either stream or download the same video.

 

Catch Up TV

What is Catch Up TV?
With Catch Up TV you can watch the last 5 days episodes of some of your favourite shows. You can stream available episodes on your Everywhere TV activated service.

 

I am not able to view Catch Up TV for certain channels?
You can only view Catch Up TV episodes for channels that are part of your subscription pack.

How do I get the installation done after I buy the Tata Sky+ HD equipment?

How can I access the  Tata Sky Karaoke service?

- On boxes with ‘Specials’ as a Category, it will be listed under Guide > Specials > Karaoke.
- On boxes without ‘Special’ as a category, it will be listed as:
- Guide > All Channels > Ch 651
- Guide > Music> Ch 651 Karaoke
- Karaoke service is a surf-able channel. You will be able to view the portal when browsing channels on your TV.

 

What are the advantages of the Karaoke service?

As compared to other karaoke sets available in the market, the Karaoke service available on Tata Sky+ HD is reasonable and hassle-free. Regular karaoke sets are very expensive. The Tata Sky Karaoke Service is available at an annual subscription of just Rs 1,990 and this includes regular updation of content. Other features include-

  1. Original Music videos, unlike the other karaoke sets in the market
  2. Sur-Meter to score your performance, allowing you see how good you really are and to compete with family and friends
  3. Monthly refresh of songs, so no requirement to invest in song CDs

 

What is the subscription charge?

The Tata Sky Karaoke service subscription charges are Rs 1990 for a 1-year subscription and will be available only through our helpline. From the second consecutive year the applicable charges will be Rs 600 per annum. One free album will always be available for sampling of the service.

 

Tell more about the recording functionality

Tata Sky+ HD gives you 500 GB of hard disk space to record your favorite programmes. At the press of a button, you have the flexibility to:

  1. Record one channel while you watch another channel
  2. Record two channels simultaneously while you watch one of the channels being recorded
  3. Record two channels simultaneously while you watch a previously recorded programme
  4. Record a TV series automatically

You can playback the recorded programme at any time convenient to you.

 

What is the series link feature?

If you want to record all episodes of a programme back-to-back, you don't need to set individual recordings for each episode. Just set a 'series link' for the programme after you set the programme for recording. This will ensure that all episodes of the programme get automatically recorded. You can now play back all the episodes at a time to convenient to you.

 

How can I playback a programme that I have recorded?

Press 'plan' on your Tata Sky+ HD remote to view a list of all programmes that have already been recorded or are currently recording or are set for future recording. Select the programme you want to playback from this list.

 

What are the benefits of the pause live TV feature?

Very often, while you are watching your favourite programme on TV and you may be interrupted by a phone call. With the Tata Sky+ HD pause live TV feature, you can now pause the programme that you are watching, answer the phone call and resume watching from where you left off. This way, you can answer the phone and still ensure that you don't miss even a minute of the programme you are watching.

 

What are the benefits of the rewind live TV feature?

Often, you might miss a crucial dialogue while watching a movie on Star Movies, HBO or any other channel. You would like to watch it again, but you can't. That situation is now passé. With the Tata Sky+ HD rewind live TV feature, you can rewind live TV anytime to watch the dialogue you missed again and again.

 

What will happen to my recorded programmes when the hard disk is full?

Tata Sky+ HD allows you to manage recordings in three modes – Automatic, Warning and Manual. Automatic modes is the default setting. In this mode, recorded programmes will be deleted automatically when there is insufficient disk space to record new programmes. Tata Sky+ HD will first delete recorded programmes that you have previously watched, followed by recorded programmes that you have not watched.

Warning mode presents you with a warning screen when the disk is full. You can choose to delete recordings to free up disk space. If you do not delete old recordings, Tata Sky+ HD automatically deletes the recordings as stated in Automatic Mode.

In Manual mode, the recording stops when the disk space runs low; no warning is displayed. It is up to you to ensure that unwanted recordings are regularly deleted to make space available for new recordings.

 

Can I ensure that specific programmes are not deleted when Tata Sky+ HD is automatically deleting content from the hard disk?

Yes, you can save a programme from deletion by using the "Lock" feature. Tata Sky+ HD will not automatically delete any programme that has been Locked. To lock a programme or to delete it, you will need to enter a PIN. This PIN is the same as the Parental Lock PIN. By default, the PIN is 0000. We recommend you change this to prevent misuse. To lock a programme, highlight it in Plan and press the blue button on your Tata Sky remote.

 

Can I transfer all the recorded programmes on my hard disk to another device like a DVD/ VCR?

No. You will not be able to transfer the recordings stored on your Tata Sky+ HD digicomp to any other electronic device.

 

Can I regulate what my children watch on TV?

Yes. You can regulate what your children watch with the parental control feature. This unique feature allows you to lock movies based on parental ratings or even an entire channel. Press 'organiser' button on your remote and select parental control to use this feature. You will be requested to enter a PIN, the default PIN is 0000. We recommend you change this to prevent misuse.

 

Will I lose the old recordings on my box after changing my package?

Now you will have access to all old recordings on their box even after you change your channel package.

What are the conditions in which I won't be able to see the recordings on my set top box?

  1. If a subscriber's account/s are merged or demerged – he/she/they will not be able to watch any previously recorded content on any of the set top boxes associated with these accounts
  2. If a subscriber type is changed (be deleting and recreating subscriber in the system) – he/she will not be able to watch any previously recorded content on any set top box associated with this account
  3. If a subscriber box is swapped – the subscriber will lose all the content recorded on previous box
  4. If a subscriber's primary box is converted to secondary box or vice versa, he/she will not be able to watch any content previously recorded on any of the converted boxes.

Can I watch 3D content with my Tata Sky HD and Tata Sky+ HD?

Yes! Both Tata Sky HD and Tata Sky+ HD set top boxes are capable of delivering 3D content. You will be able to watch 3D content with these boxes, as and when its available on Tata Sky. However you will need a 3D TV and 3D glasses in order to enjoy 3D content.
